- Remove your grill grates, drip tray and heat baffle.
- Clean out the firepot, vacuuming out any ash buildup.
- Empy the hopper.
- navigate to Menu > Auger > Clear Auger.
- Once the auger is clear, select Cancel on your controller.
- Replace the heat baffle, drip tray and grill grates.
Why is my pellet hopper smoking?
If you notice smoke coming from your hopper during Shutdown Mode, this is caused by what we call backburn. Backburn means that the pellets within the auger are heating to a smoke point. To resolve backburn, turn your grill to SMOKE. This will begin feeding the pellets within the auger into the firepot.

When the grill isn’t lighting, it could be because there’s too much ash buildup in the firebox. Make sure to wait until the unit has had a chance to cool down before attempting to clean it out. Similarly, the firebox may be too full of wood pellets to ignite properly.
